House of St Barnabas

September 29, 2015

On Saturday, the wonderful House of St Barnabas became my home for the day as some girlfriends and I settled in for a day of chatter, work, food and creativity.
The annual Art Social was running so the lovely corsage you see below was actually made by yours truly. There was a table full of flowers in the garden and a lovely lady called... er... Jane? (I can't remember, let's just call her Jane) guided us as we chose our favoured blooms and moulded them into beautiful accessories. A really lovely activity.

After making our corsages, we headed over to Soho Square to listen to a talk on race and feminism. However, disaster struck and I won't go into it, but let's just say that there were deckchairs and the deckchairs decided they didn't want us sitting in them that day!
So we hastily made our way back to HOSB and decided it was time for lunch.

The food at HOSB is lovely and they have a really good variety of options. From tapas to pizzas baked in a wood fire oven right outside in the garden. The aubergine fritters are a firm favourite of mine and are absolutely delicious. Crispy, salty and with a delightfully sweet honey glaze. I could eat them forever.  We ordered the fritters, along with some polenta chips, fried mushroom balls, calamari, olives and pepperoni pizza and everyone took a bit of what they fancied. The best way to do lunch in my opinion.

Finally, after lunch we headed up to the drawing room, passing some of the many pieces of beautiful artwork held at the house. Art is central to the vision of HOSB and they showcase the work of emerging and established artists; curating pieces to inspire and uplift.
The drawing room is a lovely space, filled with sofas, more artwork and a feature fireplace and is a great place to work and chat while relaxing and drinking tea.
With all of us being in creative industries, these get togethers are perfect for discussing projects in the pipeline, advising each other, sharing ideas and just getting on with some work in a space which is really conducive to creativity.

Hours passed by and as day turned to night we realised it was well past dinner time and so ordered some much needed food. The hot falafel wrap was delicious and the cute little bowl of chips was small enough to not bring on too much food guilt but still substantial enough to leave a good impression.

As the music got louder and the sound of soca filled the room, we realised it was now approaching midnight and time for us to call it a day. We drank some red wine to mark the end of our day out and headed out onto the streets of Soho to jump in an Uber home.

Productivity is so much easier when you're having fun!
